Luci Ponce was hired as Mission College’s softball coach for Spring 2018. She was a Gold Glove all-conference first baseman at Texas A&M at Commerce. As a senior she hit .312, ranking 26th in the NCAA in home runs (14) and 19th in the NCAA in RBIs. She earned third team all-conference honors as a junior in 2015, batting .364 with a team-high 46 runs, 10 home runs and 44 RBIs.
She signed onto A&M-Commerce as the first signee for Lion softball, redshirting her first year with three other players. After going 29-24 during the program’s first year, the Lions under Richie Bruister went 37-19 their second in 2016, reaching the NCAA Regionals and top-25 consideration during the year.
Ponce earned her AA degree from Weatherford College in Texas, where she was an all-conference selection following 14 home runs and 48 RBIs. Weatherford also reached the NJCAA Tournament following a win in the conference tournament. As a freshman she played a Frank Phillips College, where she hit 10 home runs and drove in 34, also earning all-conference honors.
From San Jose’s William C. Overfelt High, she was a two-time league MVP and three-time All-San Jose Mercury News selection. She hit .651 as a prep with 142 hits and 142 RBIs, all school-records.
Ponce received a Bachelors in Sports and Recreational Management in the Summer of 2015 and received her Masters in Health, Kinesiology, & Sports Studies with a concentration in Athletic Administration in the Summer of 2016, both from Texas A&M Commerce.
